Solar Roof Tiles

A Solar-Hybrid-Module with outstanding aesthetics

The Solar Roof Tiles by paXos retain the aesthetics of a conventional roof. The incoming sunlight is converted directly into electricity. In combination with a battery storage system, you can also use the self-produced electricity at times when the sun is not shining. If you additionally connect our Solar Roof Tiles with a heat pump, you can provide heat for your house even more efficiently.

setup of the Solar Roof tile-mild hybrid 14.5W (SDP-MH 14.5W)

The design of the Solar Roof Tile-Mild Hybrid is based on the intensive study of the roof systems used in Germany. It improves performance points as well as production and installation. We are always in close professional exchange with craftsmen and experts to realize a successful product. It has been shown that a functional structure of the SDP-MH meets our requirements without restrictions. Currently, the SDP-MH consists of two main components, the glass package and the housing.

Photovoltaic Module (Glass Package)

We use a glass-glass design for our SDP-MH 14.5W. This leads to a very high mechanical strength, which is even higher than that of classic modules due to the small format. It is even possible to walk on the solar roof tiles for installation purposes. In addition, the glass package is "hermetically" sealed with a diffusion-tight edge sealing. Thanks to this technology, which comes from the insulating glass sector, the solar cells are protected against moisture for several decades. This significantly increases their service life compared to conventional solar modules.

The housing is made of a high-quality aluminum alloy using a laser punching process. An optimal corrosion protection is generated by a special KTL coating of all housing parts. The final powder coating creates the aesthetic coloring. The mounting on the roof batten is realized by two high-strength stainless steel screws, the protection against storm suction by two wood screws positioned offset.

During assembly, the glass-glass module is inserted into the housing and thus mounted in a movable manner. The covering of the outer glass area by the enclosing housing serves as additional glass edge protection. The combination of these two main components leads to an aesthetic, durable and highly efficient solar roof tile.

Simple Roof Covering

The SDP-MH is optimized for fast and efficient installation. After building up the roof structure, the solar roof tiles can be laid like normal roof tiles and screwed to the roof battens. The electrical connection (plugging in) can also be carried out afterwards without any problems. Screwing and connection require max. 25 s per solar roof tile - e.g. just less than 4 hours for an 8 kWp roof area with approx. 550 solar roof tiles.

This allows the trades of the roofer and solar installer to be clearly separated - but can also be done directly together.

  • Installation recommended for roof pitches between 20 - 45 deg (under special precautions also 0 - 90 deg)
  • Visually hardly distinguishable so-called complementary roofing tiles are available at favorable conditions and compatible with the SDP-MH

High resistance to Hail impact

In the course of the design and safety qualification, in addition to the minimum requirements for hail impact resistance, extended tests with considerably higher loads were carried out.

Thereby the SDP-MH 14.5W achieved 10 times the resistance force of the required minimum according to IEC.

  • Fire with ice ball of 45 mm diameter (vs. 25 mm demanded)
  • Weight of ice ball of 43.9 g (vs. 7.5 g demanded)
  • Impact velocity of about 110.5 km/h (vs. 82.9 km/h demanded)
  • Impact energy of 20.7 J (vs. 2 J demanded)

In addition, increased hail impact resistance tests were carried out in accordance with the VKF test standard.

Both the glass/glass module and the roof system, consisting of SDP-MH and the wave profile, have met the requirements of hail resistance class (HW) 4. Inclusion in the hailstorm register is in progress.

Vertical loadable up to 150 kg

For more convenient installation and maintenance, the SDP-MH is classified as walkable according to DIN 18008-6, as no damage to the glass has occurred up to a load of 450 kg.

Up to a load of 300 kg there was no damage to the (in itself) sensitive solar cells, because they are safely protected in our glass package. Taking into account the dynamic safety factor, the SDP-MH can be loaded up to 150 kg without any problems and can therefore be stepped on - regardless of the angle at which it is installed. The same stepping safety applies to the integrated mounting step.

  • Load of 150 kg on an area of 10 x 10 cm
  • High safety due to the multi-part glass package

Increased impact Resistance under Shock loads

As part of the module breakage test, the solar roof tile is subjected to a point load with a sphere weighing 45.5 kg and measuring 250 mm in diameter. The ball swings onto the modules in a suitable (standardized) device.

No visible or technical damage was caused to the SDP-MH by the ball.

  • Module Breakage Test with 45.5 kg heavy ball
  • No damage under impact load

Fireproof according to VKF

For increased fire safety, tests were carried out in the area of DIN 13501 for so-called hard roofing.

The SDP-MH receives the certification as BROOF (t1), where t1 corresponds to the first test method according to DIN V ENV 1187. This means that our solar roof tile is just as fire-safe as a conventional roof tile made of clay or concrete, because it achieves the highest classification for fire safety.

  • Hard roofing according to DIN 13501: BROOF (t1)
  • No spread of fire on the roof surface

The inconspicuous integration of a high-performance solar module into the roof structure is a key argument for using the Solar Roof Tile-Mild Hybrid from paXos. In addition to the functional design, there are further advantages due to the entire roof system. These include the preservation of the aesthetics. In addition, there is no need for double roofing compared to elevated modules.

Patented movability of the glass module

The main feature of the system is the movable bearing of the glass module of the SDP-MH 14.5W. Since this is not glued as in other systems, the patented slidability of the glass module offers the possibility to access the inner workings of the SDP while it is already installed.

Easy removal and insertion of the SDP-MH into the roof

After the glass package has been pushed up, only the screws for holding and securing against storm suction have to be loosened. Then the single SDP-MH can be pulled out of the roof by the frame without having to remove the entire roof. The SDP-MH can be inserted again in the same way and secured against storm suction. Traditional clip solutions, on the other hand, cause problems in placing the storm suction clips in the already installed roof.

Separation of the work steps "roofing" and "coupling the electrical connections"

The roofing and connection of the electrical components are independent of each other. Therefore, the roof can first be covered by a qualified roofer and then connected by a trained solar technician. In addition, a revision is easy to carry out.

Besides the glass module, the separate housing is another systemic advantage. The flexible connection ensures freedom during installation and exchangeability of individual modules. Furthermore, the rear ventilation is integrated directly into the housing. Stable and durable materials ensure that your house is protected. The SDP-MH is also protected against storm suction by the housing.  In addition to row roofing, offset roofing is also possible.

Integrated air duct for rear ventilation

A cavity is integrated into the housing between the two openings, front to bottom and back to top. When several SDP-MH overlap, an air duct is formed. By natural convection, the cooler air rises to the top when warming up.

Cooling of the solar cells

The air duct provides rear ventilation and cooling of the solar cells. This increases the efficiency of electricity generation.

Longer service life of the solar modules

The temperature of the solar cells is reduced by the rear ventilation. This is accompanied by an increase in service life and degradation is significantly minimized.

Making use of waste heat from the solar cells

With the help of an air-water heat pump, the air heated by the solar cells can be sucked off centrally in the ridge and made usable. The warmed up air provides for a more efficient operation of the heat pump, so that less power is needed for the supply of heat.

The use of modern cell types and different powder coatings contributes to an exceptionally wide range of colors. In this way you can choose between four colors of the SDP-MH on your roof. Do you prefer the classic black look or terracotta? Or something more fancy like a blue or green roof? We make it possible that the color does not set you any limits when choosing your solar system!
